Santa Found the Breath of Heaven Children in Watamu, Kenya

The Children of the Breath of Heaven Children's Home each received a toy from sponsors for Christmas, and a hearty Christmas dinner of boiled meat and rice.  They were so excited with the dolls, balls, play money, play microphone, bow and arrow and other toys like pretend cooksets.  These children did not even have a ball to play with before this offering.  They also received a football (soccer ball) and formed a team called the Athena Football Club.  Inspired by the microphone and 2 plastic flutes, they wish to start a praise band in church.  They made a set of makeshift drums with pots and pans, rocks and sticks.  If anyone would like to contribute funds for real instruments, that would be awesome. Three of the boys are willing to become Pastors one day.  They are rapidly learning English from books sponsors provided last month, and soon will need new books.  Everything is shared.  There are two ladies willing to teach and the new school will be called Logos Chosen Academy!  Praise the Lord for Samuel and Josephine Omondi and for all the friends of this ministry.  Every dollar donated goes directly to fund dire needs.  And a few wants as well.  GOD BLESS YOU AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

Outside children will be invited to enroll in free academy for Breath of Heaven orphans in Watamu

The orphans at Breath of Heaven Children's Home are aged 1 to 13 years old.  Some were taken in from conditions where they had no home, or from overcrowding,  and were just "sleeping in the dust."
They have zero toys, no books, not even their own soccer ball, unlike some of our own children here in America.
They are bright and smiling, helpful and kind. They do the chores. Carry water, gather wood for cooking, wash their clothes, shower from a plastic tub, look after the younger ones...  They worship the Lord every day at 7:00 a.m. and in the evening in services called "Morning Glory" and "Evening Glory" in the sanctuary of the compound.  They sing and dance, kneel and raise their hands unto the Lord, and really know how to pray.
They are excited about having their own school.  They have a chalkboard, but no chalk.
There is a box of school supplies that Athena (USA Director of Fundraising) lovingly purchased from the Dollar Tree for $50....an assortment of mostly books, children's encyclopedias on Nature, History, and Space, beginning readers, children's prayer books, bible stories, CDs, pencils, one box of crayons, one palette of watercolor paints, a bar of soap ....to share.  The cost of shipping to Kenya costs more than the supplies and may take 6 weeks to arrive.
There is so much anticipation!.........A teacher has been engaged...a member of the Church, Madame Agness, who is 25.  She will be paid by those who can, with small gifts like a bottle of lotion.  Outside children will be invited to enroll.  Without money for tuition, the other orphanage schools are hopelessly out of reach.
But this school already has a logo, a badge.  The colorful shield reads:  LOGOS CHOSEN ACADEMY, Est. 2012, (the date the orphanage began), Watamu, Kenya.  Divided into 4 parts, the first is a Holy Bible, the second is a flock of butterflies (representing the Breath of Heaven children's home), the 3rd is of children playing soccer, and the 4th, the tongues of fire representing the Holy Spirit and the ability to preach the gospel in other languages, all over the world.
Can you help these bright children not to have to wait another day for their school to open? We don't need $10,000, or $1,000, we only need.....$100!.......$10 for the regulation Wilson traditional soccer ball, and $75 for postage, and $15 for lunches (each child's share is 20 cents per day).  This sum will last a long time.

When we go to preach, the people there are very poor...

Sometimes the people have no offering to give, and they expect the Pastor to help them.  This we try to do.

We will teach the older people how to read, and give them their own bible in Swahili

"GOD is leading us to form a school for adults age 20-45 and teach them how to read their native Swahili," says Pastor Samuel Omondi.  "We will provide them with magnifier reading glasses for $1 each, and give them their own copy of the scriptures.  Bibles are scarce in our church.
Right now, there is a need for chalk, and for someone to purchase 10-15 pairs of readers at the Dollar Tree. Athena is checking on the price of bibles to find the most economical way to provide them."
Madame Agness, 25,  is the teacher for the children right now, teaching them English. She is not paid a salary, only in small gifts, such as a bottle of lotion, or chalk.  Both schools will operate inside the church structure, which has a dirt floor and no desks yet.
It is very exciting to see what God can do with humble beginnings...Glory to God!

"FOOD,.... Mosquito Nets,.... Sweaters for when it gets cold......"  said Josephine, tentatively.  Her eyes betrayed her concerns for the 20 children sleep in the dwelling with no windows.

FOOD.....Right now, Josephine had only enough to last through lunch the next day.  She calculates carefully, and squeezes the Kenyan schillings as far as possible.  Her husband, Pastor Omondi joyfully walks several kms to the store and markets nearly every day, if God has provided,  to pay first a little on the accumulated debt to kindly shopkeepers on his credit account and then to purchase the special flour, or rice, or beans, perhaps cabbage, to sustain everyone another day.

They have a few hens, and have offers to buy some goats.... Water is stored in big plastic containers on the ground there is no well.  Electricity is wired to them from a neighbor whom they pay about $12 per month.

"Did you have a large offering from your services yesterday," I inquired?

"Well, Athena, in Kenya, the people who come to the services are very poor, and often they expect the Pastor to help them."

To be honest the orphans of the Breath of Heaven children home look skinnier than others in Watamu.  

Why not give a recurrent gift of $12 every month? Then once a month, the children will sit down to eat three times that day, and give thanks to God remember you that day.  What day will you choose?  The first Sunday?  The last Saturday?  The 24th of every month?  

Imagine how happy you will feel on the appointed day as you say grace over your own meals!

One of the Smallest Orphanages in Kenya...this ministry survives on a budget of only $600 per month

Dear friends,

What impresses me so much is that this Pastor and his wife can run a compound with a 50 member church, travel to other churches as guest ministers for crusades, and still afford to  feed and clothe twenty orphans between the ages of 3 and 13, all  on a meager budget of only $600 per month!  How do they do it?  By depending on God 24/7.  Sometimes they literally do not know how they will eat the next day.  But God provides.  He always does.

Of course, they have bigger dreams: of buying their own plot of land, building some houses, digging their own well, and purchasing a larger amplifier for outdoor crusades.

Yet, Imagine what you could do as sponsor of one of the smallest orphanages in Kenya!  

You could donate a gift for the postage needed to ship $50 in school supplies ($79.95).  See photos of what will be sent.

You could sponsor a single child, a boy or a girl of your choice, for $30 per month.  There are no administrative or overhead fees that come first.

You could buy a day's worth of meals for 22 people for only $12.00.  Or give a little more so that they can afford better foods.

Or a new CD player that does not stop playing mid- service, and that the children can use in school to listen to stories and music.

THIS IS NOW MY CHURCH. Meet the children who live at the Breath of Heaven Children's Home orphanage at Watamu, Kenya! You can directly sponsor them without going through a large organization with many levels of administration. They live with a Pastor and his wife in a village with white sandy beaches just like Destin. Right now they are down to receiving one meal a day and sleep on the floor because there are no beds yet. In spite of all this, they are receiving the utmost in love and care and are learning about Jesus. They speak Swahili and English. Bibles are scarce in Watamu.
